Do Maine Coons Like Sleeping On Beds?

Yes, Maine Coons generally like sleeping on beds, especially near or directly on top of their owners. They are highly social cats, so a Maine Coon that has socially bonded with their owner will love staying close to their human companions during bedtime.

Because of this affectionate nature, Maine Coons can exhibit “dog-like” behavior during the day, or when you go to sleep by sitting, laying, or sleeping next to their owners.

While highly social Maine Coon cats may sleep right on top of you (such as on your chest, stomach, or feet), others tend to prefer the foot of the bed, or adjacent pillows and blankets.

Due to their large size, sleeping on the same bed as a Maine Coon can often feel like having a heavy weighted blanket, as they lay across your legs and chest (or they hog the bed sheets!).

This giant breed can easily take up a significant amount of mattress space, turning bedtime into a cozy but crowded affair.

However, you might notice that their nighttime habits shift depending on the environment. Not every Maine Coon will like sleeping on the bed every night, as due to room temperature or comfort, some prefer cool wooden floors, cat beds, and spots where they find it easier to regulate their body temperature.

Because they have thick, dense, water-resistant coats, they can easily overheat on plush mattresses and heavy bedding. When the bedroom gets too warm, your feline friend might migrate to a cooler tiled floor or a window sill to cool down.

So when it comes to sleeping on beds, their desire for physical closeness usually wins, making the bed a primary nighttime destination for these gentle giants.

Whether they are acting as a furry anchor at your feet or sprawling out right in the middle of your pillows, these majestic cats use bedtime to reinforce their deep bonds with their owners.
