You can tell if your cat is part Maine Coon by looking for a combination of distinctive physical features like tufted ears, a square muzzle, a shaggy uneven coat, and a long, bushy tail. Unlike normal domestic longhairs, a Maine Coon mix often inherits prominent “lynx tips”—tufts of fur growing from the tips of its large, high-set ears—as well as heavy ear furnishings inside. Their faces usually feature high cheekbones and a distinctively strong, boxy, or rectangular snout. Structurally, they tend to possess large, muscular, long-backed bodies with substantial bone density and oversized paws that feature heavy tufts of fur between the toes. Their coat is longest around the neck, creating a lions-like ruff, and their spectacular tail can typically stretch all the way to their shoulder blades.
