When standing upright on its hind legs, an adult Maine Coon cat typically reaches a height of 3.5 to 4 feet (106 to 122 cm). This exceptional height allows these “gentle giants” to comfortably stretch up and look directly onto standard kitchen countertops or reach the mid-thigh to waist of an average human. Exceptional individuals, such as famous social media Maine Coons, have been documented stretching up to 3.9 feet (1.2 metres) to grab treats or inspect high surfaces. When standing normally on all four paws, a Maine Coon is still impressively tall, measuring 10 to 16 inches (25 to 41 cm) from the floor to the top of its shoulders, which easily dwarfs standard domestic cats. Their remarkable vertical reach is a direct result of their elongated, muscular torsos, exceptionally long hind legs, and long, substantial bone structure.
